On the outskirts of Columbus, South Hilltop is a suburb comprising homes, businesses, industry and some retail. It's not uncommon to see houses next to local businesses and condos. Wide gridded streets with sidewalks often reveal residents sitting outside on their front porches taking in some fresh air. The community has proximity to downtown, parks and major interstates. This is also a place where vintage homes mingle with midcentury houses. “There’s a lot of character in these homes, which are still being developed,” says Neil Pandya, a Realtor with Carleton Realty and area resident. “The City of Columbus is putting a lot of money in the area to revitalize it.” According to Pandya, the South Hilltop area has attracted investors who renovate homes and flip them. “Some investors will put money into the cosmetic exterior of the house, but what’s inside is ignored,” Pandya says. “It’s up to us as Realtors to make homebuyers aware of the situation.” Some homes date back to the turn of the 20th century, while others were constructed between the 1920s and 1950s.
