Transforming from a pastoral community in the 1800s to the site of a Union-operated facility during the Civil War and finally to one of the first suburbs on Columbus’ west side, Southwest Hilltop’s homes are part of the area’s history. Many residences built in the early to mid-20th century remain and are ripe for renovation. “It’s got a lot of charm and character in an area that’s well kept, overall,” says Realtor Greg Watson, who sells homes with Red One Realty. A public elementary and a private high school are located in the neighborhood, and the Hilltop YMCA does youth outreach. As the name would suggest, the homes are located southwest of the main Hilltop neighborhood. “South of Sullivant between Hague and Demorest is one of the more desirable places to be in the Hilltop area,” Watson says. The homes were built between the 1920s and 60s and are valued from $150,000 to $350,000. The tree-shaded backyards are large enough for gardens and patios.
