With the University of Central Arkansas in the middle of the community, and two other colleges close by, it is easy to think of the Southwest Conway neighborhood as a typical college town. That isn’t the case, according to Claire Carter Smithson, an executive broke with Homeward Realty. “There are some apartments in the area where students live, but non-students and families mainly occupy the houses,” Carter Smithson says. The families tend to take advantage of the neighborhood’s perks, including several original restaurants and a convenient drive into North Little Rock.

Midcentury ranch-style homes are common
The neighborhood is predominantly midcentury ranch-style homes with brick exteriors. These homes, which usually have three bedrooms, can range from $200,000 to $500,000. Homes in the gated Pippinpost subdivision are larger and sit on more spacious lots. These homes can range from $600,000 to $700,000. There are also investment properties available, typically from $70,000 to $150,000. Roads in Southwest Conway are well-maintained, and sidewalks are common, especially near the University of Central Arkansas. Tall oak trees provide shade.

Conway High School's Wampus Cats are no myth
The University of Central Arkansas sits in the center of the neighborhood. The school has been known for its College of Education since it opened in 1907. There are lots of families and younger students in the neighborhood as well. Grade school students are served by Conway Public Schools. Students can attend Marguerite Vann Elementary School, which has a B-plus Niche grade. Carl Stuart Middle School has an A-minus Niche grade. Conway Junior High School, which serves students in ninth and 10th grade, earned an A-minus score from Niche. Conway High School, which serves 11th and 12th graders, has an A Niche score. The school’s teams are nicknamed the Wampus Cats after a mythical six-legged beast said to have terrorized the American South and Midwest in the early 1900s.

Downtown North Little Rock is down I-40
The neighborhood is close to I-40, which can take drivers to downtown North Little Rock about 30 miles away. Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport is about a 35-mile drive. Conway Regional Medical Center is less than 3 miles away.
Jewel Moore Nature Reserve houses lots of wildlife
The University of Central Arkansas’ Jewel Moore Nature Reserve spans 18 acres and is home to more than 230 species of plants and animals. The reserve is open to the public. Bainbridge Park has a basketball court and provides cyclists access to the Tucker Creek Trail. The trail has more than 3 miles of paved routes that run through several Conway neighborhoods. Conway Station Baseball Complex has nine diamonds and a fishing pond. Other amenities sit just outside the neighborhood, like the McGee Center, which has two racquetball courts and a volleyball court.
The Rogue Roundabout has fun with drink names
Several interesting restaurants sit just beyond the neighborhood’s borders, including The Rogue Roundabout, a craft food and beer kitchen that names its drinks after local streets that feature a roundabout. There are 38 roundabouts in Conway, says Rogue Roundabout owner Chris Smith. His favorite drink, the Donaghey Darko, is named after a street that runs through UCA’s campus. Gibson’s Cat Cafe serves coffee and has cats for customers to pet and potentially adopt. Stoby’s Restaurant is known for its cheese dip. The brick walls, simple furniture and flowing fountain of Mike’s Place, which serves Cajun-style dishes, conjures a New Orleans feeling. Conway Commons Shopping Center is home to retail stores like Target, Belk and TJ Maxx. Kroger Marketplace is a grocery store option.
