Why Live in Holiday Hills
Holiday Hills is a mostly residential area on the north side of Decatur, Illinois. This area has many mid-20th-century homes and larger lots than in many parts of the city. The community is near a few parks, big box stores and chain and local restaurants serving diverse cuisines. “It’s a neighborhood where neighbors care about neighbors,” says Randy Grigg, a Realtor with Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate Service First. “It’s readily accessible to everything — transportation, shopping and entertainment. And it’s not far from Lake Decatur, where there’s a whole other venue of entertainment." Homes here are located along many straight, narrow streets without sidewalks. “The lots are also big. Some of them are half an acre, while many lot sizes in the city are a quarter of an acre or less,” says Tasha Cohen, a Realtor with Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate Service First. Some homes here have septic systems, which Grigg and Cohen say lead to cost savings. Ranch-style homes are common, but there are also some Colonial Revivals, Craftsman bungalows and gablefront houses. Homes here sell from about $70,000 to $170,000. Renters make up about a quarter of the community. Parsons Elementary
