Carolina Meadows is a nonprofit continuing care retirement community known for its active, upscale vibe and lengthy list of amenities. It comprises nearly 500 independent and assisted living units, as well as memory care and skilled nursing facilities. “We’re a little in the center of things. We’re in Chatham County, but with a Chapel Hill address, and we’re also 10 to 15 minutes from Durham,” says Khin Aye, Carolina Meadows’s marketing coordinator. She says the convenient location draws locals and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill alums looking to retire close to where they went to school. Incoming residents choose between villas and apartments. “The villas and apartments are independent living, and the difference is square footage. Our villas are either duplexes, triplexes or even quadplexes,” Aye says. The townhome-style villas usually have attached garages. Villa and apartment units are remodeled before move-in, and details like flooring, counters, paint colors, appliances and hardware are customizable.
