Why Live in Montwood
Before the local high school was built in 1989, Montwood was just a patch of undeveloped land in East El Paso. But when the first houses started going up in the 1990s, families began moving in and breathing life into this mixed-use residential community of around 1,000 students, teachers and parents. With large homes, local restaurants and high school sports teams, the neighborhood takes pride in how everybody rallies behind their Montwood Rams. “My kids went to Montwood High School,” says Marysela Flores, a resident and broker for Axiom Realty. “That’s why I moved to the neighborhood.” Neighborhood houses surround Montwood High School, and the streets lead into cul-de-sacs lined with trees, bushes and sidewalks. People tend to hold onto their properties here and rarely put them onto market. “They pop up here or there, and when they do, they get sold very quickly,” Flores says. “It tends to be a very popular area.” Architectural styles range from Mission Revival to ranch-style. Many of the brick and stucco houses that list between $250,000 and $400,000 feature pebble lawns, palm trees and tile roofs. A few custom houses in the $400,000 to $600,000 range have up to five bedrooms
