Strong is a small, residential neighborhood in Elkhart, roughly one mile west of downtown. Its tree-lined streets offer ample space for cyclists and well-maintained sidewalks for pedestrians. Most homes here were built during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, showcasing a mix of Arts and Crafts, Craftsman, Tudor Revival, bungalow and ranch-style design. The Lexington Avenue Bridge connects the neighborhood to downtown, where popular spots like Iechyd Da Brewing Company, Brass Elk Brewing and Electric Brew Coffee Shop can be found. Local dining favorites include Michael’s Italian Restaurant, Simeri’s Beardsley Street Tavern and Cappy’s Northside Bar and Grill. The neighborhood is also close to Martin’s Super Market and Save A Lot. For outdoor recreation, McNaughton Park is less than a mile south along the Saint Jospeh River. It has a boat launch, accessible playground, splash park, tennis courts and a softball field. The park also hosts free summer concerts by the Elkhart Municipal Band. Strong is about 4 miles south of the Indiana Toll Road and is served by the Interurban Trolley Yellow Line. The neighborhood is conveniently located for employees at Elkhart General Hospital.
