Why Live in Waverly Woods
Waverly Woods offers a family-friendly and active lifestyle on the northwestern outskirts of Ellicott City. The area was once the site of an 18th-century plantation named Waverly. While the original Federal-style house still stands, a developer acquired almost 700 acres of the plantation’s former farmland. And thus was born the Waverly Woods neighborhood. Now, an 18-hole golf course, a diverse housing stock and a shopping center make up the rolling terrain. There’s an HOA-maintained community center where kids have swim practice and adults play bridge. Commuters heading to either Baltimore or Washington, D.C., can easily access both Interstate 70 and U.S. Route 29. But even with recreation spaces and a convenient location, the neighborhood’s biggest draw is Waverly Elementary and the other Howard County public schools for which the neighborhood is zoned. “People move here so their kids can walk to Waverly Elementary, which is highly rated,” says Karen Burkett, an associate broker with RE/MAX Executive who has sold several homes here. “The middle school and high school that kids go to after Waverly Elementary are also super well-respected.” Homes built between the 1990s and 2010s
