Why Live in Veazie

Over 100 years ago, Veazie, a community in south King County, was a small town. The coming of the railroads, plus the timber industry, mining and homesteading, led to the development of the area in the late 19th century. The company Veazie & Russell Logging gave the former town its name. It's in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains and remains rural and quiet, with farms, forests and abandoned train tracks. To the south is Birch and the small city of Enumclaw, which is known as the Gateway to Mount Rainier. "Veazie is considered Enumclaw. It's very spaced out. People who move here want some acreage and to be a little further out," says Bart Chmielewski, a real estate agent with Windermere Real Estate/PSK Inc. Some of the oldest homes are from the early 20th century, though more date to the 1980s and 1990s. Styles run the gamut, from vintage farmhouses and ramblers to contemporary and custom homes. There's not much on the market at a given time, but data estimations show homes under 2,000 square feet range from the $400,000s to the $800,000s. Homes of about 2,500 to 5,300 square feet are $1 million to $1.7 million. Multiacre lots are the norm; they may include barns, greenhouses,
