Why Live in University South
As the name suggests, University South is across the street from the University of Evansville (UE). “Being that it is a private university that is a major collaborative partner in our town, a lot of area residents stay here to go to college,” says Nikki Davis, a Realtor with F.C. Tucker Emge who used to live nearby. Even UE alums or residents who have never attended the school take advantage of its campus, which Davis says is beautiful to walk around. One of her favorite spots is the Weeping Basketball Fountain, a memorial for 17 basketball players who died in a 1977 plane crash. Residents can also take advantage of the dining options on and around campus. A walk through University South reveals mostly private residences with grassy lawns shaded by elm and oak trees. Early-to-mid-20th-century homes range from Craftsmans and bungalows to Georgian and Tudor Revivals. There are some Cape Cods and ranch-style houses as well. “There’s a lot of stepping stone houses in that area, whether you’re a first-time homebuyer or second-time homebuyer, or retirement age and downsizing,” Davis says. Most properties range in price from $150,000 to $250,000, although larger homes can range from
