Recognized as an All-American city and a popular tourism destination, Fayetteville, North Carolina is most well known as the Home of Fort Bragg. It is part of the fourth largest metropolitan area in the state. Homes in the area are affordable, but the market seems to be trending slightly downward. Sales have slowed and there has been a slight decrease in listing prices. There are many new homes and communities in the city, some built and ready for move in and some still in the planning and building stages.
Fayetteville has a distinct small town feel. It offers a wide range of amenities, low cost of living and great weather. It is a caring community and was designated as the first sanctuary for soldiers and their families. There are some very nice neighborhoods in Fayetteville, but there are some less desirable neighborhoods as well, with higher crime rates. Terry Sanford is a neighborhood on the northwest side of the city and is a highly sought after community. Homes in the area hover around $200,000 and it is known for its local high school of the same name. Another popular neighborhood is Seventy First. Again it is on the northwest side of the city, close to Fort Bragg. Homes tend to be a little more expensive in this community, but have also held their value better than surrounding areas. The southern and western parts of the city are also known for having more desirable neighborhoods.
Being home to an Army base, Fayetteville’s economy depends a lot on its military community. The Army, through Fort Bragg, is Fayetteville’s largest employer, Supplying over 15,000 jobs to the city. The next two largest industries are education and health, with the Cumberland County Public School System employing over 6,000 people and Cape Fear Valley Health System employing around 5,000.
