Why Live in Potter Longway

Potter Longway is a primarily residential neighborhood in east Flint, with modestly sized homes and relatively low prices. "I'd call it the east of the east side. That particular area has really shown some improvement in livability and value in the last few years. People consider it a nice neighborhood," says Layne Lucia, broker/owner of Lucia Properties. Potter Longway is north of Robert T. Longway Boulevard, named for a local, who, in the 1950s and '60s, was active in community service and philanthropy. A park and a planetarium at Flint's Cultural Center are also named for Longway. Potter Elementary School is also in the neighborhood. Several miles southwest are downtown Flint and the Flint River. Interstate 69 is to the south, and Interstate 475 is to the west. A neighborhood of gridded streets with sidewalks and trees set a bit back, Potter Longway has evenly spaced lots, and most have driveways and garages. Among the home types are 20th-century bungalows and ranch-style homes. "The majority of homes were built between 1925 and 1950, but there are some that are newer and there are some that are older. What happens is people are buying and fixing them up and living there,"
