The area is known for its lower housing costs, with home prices below both the Fort Wayne and national averages. While there are no parks within Calhoun Place, residents can visit nearby Weisser Park, a mile northeast, which features a disc golf course, baseball diamond, basketball courts, and tennis courts. Packard Park, with mini soccer pitches and another baseball diamond, is also an option for those on the west side of the neighborhood. The neighborhood is characterized by high noise levels due to its proximity to Route 27 and various fast-food chains. Locally owned dining options include Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken and Baba’s Steak and Lemonade, while Than Saigon Oriental Market sells fresh produce a quarter mile north. Commuting downtown constitutes an eight-minute drive via Lafayette Street or a 30-minute bus ride on Citilink. Fort Wayne International Airport is a 12-minute drive southwest. Despite Fort Wayne's history of river-related incidents, flooding is less of a concern in Calhoun Place, since the St Mary's River is about a mile and a half away.
