Springhill is a Gainesville neighborhood that has seen significant growth in the past decade. The Gainesville Community Reinvestment Area has spearheaded much of this change through initiatives such as landscaping projects and sidewalk improvements. The GCRA also helps potential buyers purchase homes or vacant lots. The neighborhood features a mix of modest cottages, Florida Cracker-inspired homes from the early 20th century and newer traditional styles built in the 2020s. While many homes have been updated with fresh paint, new roofs and remodeled interiors, some still require repairs. Depot Park played a significant role in the neighborhood’s redevelopment. It hosts community events and features play areas, a splash pad and the Cade Museum. The Depot Avenue Rail Trail links to the larger Waldo Road Greenway. There’s a commercial strip in the neighborhood along Main Street, which includes downtown’s Power District, zoned for warehouses and industrial space. The neighborhood’s Cotton Club Museum displays local history and art exhibits. It’s also an event space. Heartwood Soundstage hosts live music, like Tom Petty Weekend in October. Students attend strong schools, including Joseph Williams Elementary School, Abraham Lincoln Middle School and Gainesville High School. A drive down Main Street leads to downtown Gainesville. Bus stops are also in the neighborhood.
