Why Live in Gretna

Gretna, on the southwestern outskirts of Omaha, is one of Nebraska’s fastest-growing cities. The city is located between Omaha and Lincoln and is known for its highly rated Gretna Public Schools district. Options include Gretna Middle School, Aspen Creek Middle School, Gretna East High School and Giles Creek Middle School, all of which attract many families. Housing in Gretna features modern, move-in-ready homes from the mid-2000s, as well as some midcentury ranch-style homes in older areas. Home prices range from the mid-$200,000s to the mid-$900,000s, with a median around $400,000. Gretna’s dining scene includes We’ll Smoke You BBQ, Billy’s Gretna Cafe, Kong Dog, Quality Thai Restaurant and Good Life Sports Bar & Grill. Shopping options are abundant, with the Nebraska Crossing outlet mall and several grocery stores, including the largest Hy-Vee in the region. For outdoor activities, Gretna Crossing Park offers a fishing pond, disc golf course, sports fields and an aquatic center, while Plum Creek Park and the Forest City Recreation Area provide additional recreational spaces. Annual events such as the Gretna Days celebration foster a close-knit community atmosphere. Gretna is car-dependent, and Interstate 80 provides direct access to Downtown Omaha, about 20 miles away, and Lincoln, roughly 40 miles away. The city is planning a new interchange at 192nd Street and I-80 to improve regional connectivity.
