Upper Albany has a vibrant community with strong cultural ties in Hartford.
Historic homes near Downtown Hartford
Upper Albany is a predominantly residential neighborhood just northwest of Downtown Hartford. The community’s namesake thoroughfare, Albany Avenue, was once part of a greater turnpike linking Providence, Rhode Island to none other than Albany, New York. Today, Albany Avenue is more famous for its delicious restaurants and for providing residents with easy access to downtown. But other things in Upper Albany have stayed the same through the years, like the neighborhood’s many Colonial Revival and Queen Anne houses, which have been standing proudly since the early 1900s. “The homes are pretty large, and when they’re good, they’re really good,” says Norm Hamilton, Realtor with NextHome who has been selling houses in the Hartford area for 18 years. “The residents take pride to own land and a house, and they take very good care of their homes.”
Vintage Colonial Revival and Queen Anne homes
Many of the neighborhood’s homes are a part of the Upper Albany Historic District. What was previously farmland was developed into stylish housing for the city’s growing number of businessmen and professionals from the 1890s to the 1920s. Most homes follow Colonial Revival and Queen Anne architectural styles, or a mix of both. Decorated pediments, towers, wraparound porches, Tuscan columns and second-floor balconies are common features of Upper Albany’s exquisite houses. Most are three-story and offer between 3,000 and 5,000 square feet of space. Move-in-ready homes start around $250,000, going all the way up to about $450,000 for a freshly renovated, multi-family home.

I personally think that living in Hartford is amazing because I have access to anything and everything. I'm a bus ride away from wherever I may need or want to go. The buses run so often, day or night. The amount of restaurants there are - Jamaican, Chinese, Spanish, Italian, Portguese, the list goes on. There's lots of businesses, like dentist offices, doctor's offices, hospitals, schools. I just love being in the center of everything, its like a little world in the palm of my hand. I don't understand how people don't like living in the city, I love it !!!
