In Houma's West End, residents are reviving an area close to many of this South Louisiana town's amenities. "This is a very desirable area, close to downtown Houma--and it's a very proud area," says Realtor and lifelong resident Liz Hebert with Coldwell Banker. "We pride ourselves in our community--this neighborhood is close to downtown, where we have great restaurants, great music, markets and music festivals, like Houma Downtown Live." This community is a little older, but it's attracting investors who seek to keep it thriving, primarily as recent hurricanes and newly crafted FEMA flood maps have caused some residents to struggle with insurance companies. Even with difficulties, Hebert states that the community is still incredibly close. "Some people don't understand how tight-knit we are, but it's hard to understand how special of a place it is unless you're from here," Hebert says.
