Why Live in Hull-Daisetta

Hull-Daisetta, about an hour from Houston, is a rural community formed by the small towns of Hull and Daisetta, with a total population just under 1,500. Known for its affordable land and unrestricted property use, residents can raise livestock, store equipment or build expansive ranches. Housing options include modest single-story homes like Minimal Traditionals and ranch-style houses, with larger properties also available on multi-acre plots. The community is set to open an 11,000-square-foot community center by late 2026. It will offer amenities like a computer lab, kitchen and food distribution center, as well as host events like the annual Mayhaw Festival. Massive outdoor areas are a short drive away, including Big Thicket National Preserve, featuring over 30 miles of hiking trails and diverse ecosystems, and Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge, known for its wildlife viewing opportunities. While Hull-Daisetta has limited commercial amenities, essentials and everyday shopping can be found 20 minutes away in Liberty, with more extensive options in Beaumont and Houston. The Hull-Daisetta Independent School District provides education from elementary through high school, with career and technical courses and dual-credit classes. Buyers should know that a very large sinkhole, nicknamed "Sinkhole de Mayo" by the community, is in northern Daisetta. While it is monitored regularly by geologists and does not currently look like it's expanding, potential home buyers should be aware of its presence and review property disclosures carefully.
