Exchange is a longstanding residential neighborhood in south Jackson. It's streets are lined with a diverse range of early-20th-century homes, from fixer-uppers to fully renovated properties. Minimal traditional homes, Craftsman bungalows and American foursquares can all be found here, often with covered or enclosed porches. The neighborhood is among the safest in the greater Jackson area. Exchange Park, maintained by the local Exchange Club, has a playground and basketball court, while Leake Park and the Howard Woods Recreation Complex provide additional green spaces and recreational facilities. The Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center offers after-school care, fitness programs and a media lounge. Shops like Hammond Hardware, Dollar General and Family Dollar can all be found around the neighborhood, along with popular eateries like Pryor’s BBQ House and 308 Brass Rail. The Southside Festival Series at Elnora Moorman Plaza celebrates the local Black and African American community with music, vendors, and art. Residents are about 2 miles south of downtown Jackson, while Ann Arbor and Lansing are both roughly 40 miles away. The neighborhood is served by Jackson Area Transit Authority buses, and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport is 62 miles east.
