Jacksonville, or ‘J-Vegas’, as it is affectionately known as, is located in the southeastern corner of North Carolina and is the 14th largest city in the state. Jacksonville packs a population of over 70,000 residents into its 45 square mile radius, and condominiums are a very popular housing choice within the city. Particularly among the thousands of military personnel that dwell in Jacksonville, condos of all different sizes and styles are one of the most prevalent home choices.
As a very fast growing city, Jacksonville is home to new constructions and recently developed neighborhoods are burgeoning as quickly as its population. The Northern, Northwest, and Southwest segments of Jacksonville serve to divide its residential, retail, and commercial areas. While the Northern side of Jacksonville is known for its abundance of new residences and shopping centers, the Northwest side of the city is known for being an established residential area. Piney Green Road, a distinctive area of Jacksonville, represents nearly 7 miles of subdivisions and communities. Moss Creek is one desirable subdivision in the city; it is a mid-sized residential community characterized by homes with stone-accented exteriors and a craftsman influence. Within the Jacksonville City Center, homes are very close to the Jacksonville Mall, a variety of restaurants, and many different public schools.
The economy of Jacksonville is heavily dependent on research and technology, the military, retail and commerce, healthcare and medicine, education, government, and real estate. Two of the most prominent landmarks and employers in Jacksonville are the United States Marine Corps’ Camp Lejeune and the New River Air Station. It is no surprise that the local Department of Defense is the largest employer in the city, with a workforce of over 1000 employees, followed by Camp Lejeune. Other top employers in Jacksonville are the Onslow County Schools, Onslow Memorial Hospital, Onslow County, Walmart, Coastal Carolina Community College, the City of Jacksonville, Food Lion, and Coastal Enterprises.
