Cameron, a coastal neighborhood in Lake Charles, Louisiana, is a unique blend of history, nature, and resilience. Originally a fishing and crabbing community, Cameron has faced significant challenges from hurricanes, leading to a fluctuating population and ongoing recovery efforts. The area is known for its vast wetlands and cheniers, making it a prime spot for bird watching and outdoor activities. The Creole Nature Trail and Peveto Woods Bird & Butterfly Sanctuary are popular destinations for wildlife enthusiasts. The Cameron Rec Center offers a baseball diamond and indoor facilities, while the new Lighthouse Bend RV resort provides a marina, market, and restaurant, reducing the need for long trips to Grand Lake for supplies. Despite its remote location, Cameron is home to a few small food markets and seafood huts.
