Robson Street is a small, well-established residential neighborhood along the Interstate 4 corridor on the north side of Lakeland. With the community tucked between U.S. Highway 98, the city’s primary commercial corridor, and I-4, residents are conveniently connected to local shopping, dining and attractions, as well as larger statewide destinations such as Tampa. “It’s not a bad area, but it’s not upscale,” says Steve Strickland of RE/MAX Experts, who has sold homes in the neighborhood and adds that affordability is the main draw for potential homebuyers. “You’ve got a lot of average-income and retirement-income homeowners.” The community’s mostly older housing stock features midcentury designs built in the 1950s and 1960s. But new homes have started popping up in recent years. Older homes offer more spacious lots, and several have been renovated. Newer homes offer more cozy confines, but the lots are still around a quarter-acre. Some of the contemporary designs offer features such as attached garages that the older homes do not.
