Windiest city in the country
Located in the High Plains, Amarillo's wide-open landscape combines with persistent low atmospheric pressure to make it the windiest city in the country. Average wind gusts here clock in at about 13 mph. Although the wind sometimes brings with it the smells of nearby cattle ranches, it also makes the city's air some of the cleanest int he country. The are are experiences all weather with extreme heat and freezing temperatures. "On certain days, you can feel all the seasons in one day,” Cofer says. There is also a chance for severe weather, including thunderstorms, tornadoes, and flash flooding. Parts of City View from Bismarck Avenue south to Destin Avenue, are at high risk for flooding.
