Award-winning Texas barbeque and homestyle cooking
Lawrence Park is mainly filled with restaurants and shops. The Wolflin Village shopping center is the largest group of shops in the area, with grocery stores like Amarillo International Food Market on Civic Circle, as well as clothing shops, hotels and doctors’ offices. The shopping district has several houses of worship, including First Christian Church on Wolflin Avenue, Saint Paul Methodist Church on Interstate 10 and Temple B’Nai Israel on Albert Avenue.
Some of the city’s best local restaurants also cover this retail district. Tyler’s Barbeque on Olsen Boulevard is an award-winning local favorite that has appeared in Texas Monthly over 10 times as one of the best barbecue spots in the state. “We actually won an award only a couple months after we opened,” says Tyler Frazer, owner of Tyler’s Barbeque and an Amarillo native. Macaroni Joe’s on South Kentucky Street creates a memorable Italian dining experience with over 600 wines available on the menu and a dining room that looks like a rustic Tuscan village, complete with shop fronts and fake trees. Calico County Restaurant has been open since 1984, and the mason jar-shaped signs in front beckon guests to come inside and order made-from-scratch platters of eggs, pancakes and signature pot roast.

Community-produced plays at Amarillo Little Theatre
Wolflin Village is home to the Amarillo Little Theatre, one of the oldest continuously operating community theaters in the country. The nearly century-old theater on Civic Circle puts on multiple musicals and plays every year with a cast of local actors. “The shows are so fun to do, and the tickets are so hot, they always sell out so fast,” says Harrison Stringer, a director for the Amarillo Little Theatre who has been performing at the theater since he was 10 years old. The Sunset Center, a former shopping mall on Plains Boulevard, is now home to the Panhandle Art Institute, which showcases local exhibits, offers art courses and hosts two weekly markets – the Golden Spread Farmers Market and the Sunset Marketown.

Next to top neighborhoods like Wolflin and Paramount-Mays
Within Lawrence Park’s retail areas housing is limited to apartment complexes. Many popular residential neighborhoods surround Lawrence Park, including the historic Wolflin and the ever-in-demand Paramount-Mays. These communities are occupied by ranch homes, which range from $200,000 to $500,000. The area around Wolflin Village also has some condo communities, including high-rise units at La Tour Condominium on Southwest 22nd Street and 1970s ranch-style residences at Brookplace Condos on Fleetwood Drive.
