Top schools and classic cars in south Amarillo
Contained to one square mile, Pheasant Run is one of the southernmost neighborhoods within Amarillo city limits. The small area is surrounded by industry yards, railroads and the open bluffs between Amarillo and the nearby town of Canyon. The community is close enough to Canyon that it is zoned into the town’s top-rated local school district, which is consistently ranked one of the best school districts in the Amarillo region. Pheasant Run’s location means that is does not many nearby parks, shopping and restaurants. But south Amarillo has a few surprises of its own, including roadside cultural attractions like Bill’s Backyard Classics car museum. The area is also close to Interstate 27 and Amarillo’s public transportation routes, keeping it well-connected to the rest of the city.

Pheasant Run’s brick homes and neat lawns
Most homes have a similar style, with New Traditional brick residences being the most common option. These properties, mainly built in the 2000s and 2010s, cost between $200,000 and $300,000. Neighbors put a big focus on their curb appeal, and lawns stay neat and well-kept. “The homes are newer and affordable, but in established developments, so the lawns and gardens are all set up,” says Mindy Jackson, lifetime Amarillo native and Realtor with Coldwell Banker First Equity. The area has plenty of sidewalks, making it relatively walkable. Most homes are within walking distance of community gathering places like Central Baptist Church on Southwest 58th Avenue.
