Home to one of Amarillo's most popular attractions

The small neighborhood of Santa Fe Station spans seven avenues and blends into the typical scenery of downtown Amarillo with its early 20th-century homes and grid-like layout. It’s zoned for the highly rated Amarillo Independent School District, and the community stays relatively active. It’s home to some of the city’s most popular stops, including the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum and El Alamo Park. It has also recently attracted developers who have built new homes in the neighborhood. “We actually don’t have a lot of downtown area residences,” says native Texan Jinger White, a Realtor with Era Courtyard Real Estate. “But they’re popping up in places like these that have some foot traffic.”

Santa Fe Station's residential shift

Much of Santa Fe Station’s residential area is concentrated on the neighborhood's west side, with the east side consisting of hotels clustered around the tourist and event area of the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum. Most homes were built in the early- to mid-20th century, with ranch and minimal traditional styles being the most common. The community is experiencing a wave of new construction as abandoned properties are torn down. Homes are selling for $120,000 to $180,000, which is $100,000 lower than the Amarillo average price. The only outliers are modern homes built after 2020, which are in the $240,000 to $280,000 price range. The neighborhood has a CAP Index Crime Score of 5 out of 10, slightly higher than the national average of 4.

Social gatherings at Tacos Garcia Mexican Café

Along 10th Avenue on the neighborhood's north side are small convenience stops such as local grocery shops, mechanics and discount stores. Residents can find big-box retail to the south just over Interstate 40, such as Sam’s Club, Big Lots and Ross. These commercial areas have plenty of chain restaurants, but Santa Fe Station also has several small, local eateries within the community. Tacos Garcia Mexican Café is a family-run restaurant known for its tequila selection and barbacoa, while Thai Town offers stir-fried noodles and seafood soup in its informal dining room.
