Amity Township offers its residents the tranquility that only living close to nature can provide. The Township sits in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The eastern half of the area is home to subdivisions and century-old homes behind stone walls along country roads. The western part of Amity consists mainly of woodlands and farm fields interspersed by creeks and streams. “It’s a beautiful community —a real hidden gem,” says Godfrey Properties Realtor Cynthia Koslik, who lives in the area. "We aren’t bombarded with shopping malls. Instead, it’s much more of a country scene.” Amity is the oldest incorporated Township in Berks County, and many of the older buildings still stand today. The Swedes were the first people to settle within the present boundaries of Amity, thanks to a land grant from William Penn in 1701. Today, says Koslik, “Amity Township takes care of Amity Township. It is very well run. The police and the road department are great. If residents call with any issues, they are right on it.”
Amity's blend of old and new homes
The Township comprises older and newer homes that represent a mix of architectural styles. One finds farmhouses, colonials, ranches, split-levels and contemporary homes throughout the area. “There are several different developments in Amity,” says Koslik. “Each one is unique. Some have plenty of acreage, and others tend to be tight-knit neighborhoods with many families and kids.” Amity Gardens has more than 1,300 homes and is the largest subdivision in the community. Most of those homes were built between 1970 and 1999. While lot sizes vary, as a rule, homes in Amity Township’s subdivisions tend to sit on wide, residential streets. Lawns are usually well-manicured, and sidewalks are lined with trees. Prospective homebuyers can expect to pay between $320,000 and $620,000 for a three-bedroom colonial home.

A township steeped in history
Locals can brush up on their local history by visiting several historic sites. Mouns Jones House is Berk County's oldest structure, dating back to 1701. The homestead was built by one of the area's original settlers. St. Gabriel's Church, founded in 1720, is still open today as an Episcopal church.
Amity has a range of restaurants
Residents do not have to travel far for shopping or dining. The Douglassville Shopping Center, anchored by Redner's Warehouse Markets, is just outside the community. This complex includes a barber shop, a pizza place, a CVS and Weaver’s Ace Hardware. Across the street is Kimberton Whole Foods. Realtor Koslik recommends several area eateries. Michael's Restaurant is in Douglassville. The well-known local watering hole is open 24 hours. Another area favorite is Vincenzo's Restaurant, known for its authentic Italian cuisine. Residents of Amith Garden can walk to the Hillbilly BBQ, a food truck that serves up sizeable portions of ribs, pulled pork, brisket and chicken.
