Willow Park
Suburban housing layout
Traveling down the streets of Willow Park, sidewalks are usually close to the curb, and homes are close together with modest-sized front yards with mature trees and, often, fenced-in backyards. Some houses have been renovated, with the majority built in the 1970s and ‘80s, and the price range ranges from $400,000 to $530,000. The dominant architectural styles are ranch-style and split-level, with three to four bedrooms and 1,500 to 2,500 square feet. The average price per square foot in Willow Park is under $250. Nearly 70% of the residents are homeowners. Lower prices can be found in various condos and townhouses in the neighborhood. The exception is the gated community of Carriage Park with its stone façade, four-bedroom townhouses with two levels and a private patio. These were built in the 2000s and are in the $400,000 to $500,000 price range.Parks close to schools
Located across the street from Gateway High School, Village Green Park is popular on hot Colorado summers, with an outdoor pool as part of the eight acres. Kids will love the sprayground located close to the playground. There are also two tennis courts and a small, paved walking trail. Across Jewell Avenue from the elementary school is the 14-acre Tierra Park. Within the park’s playground, there’s a small zipline. There are also a couple of tennis courts and a basketball court. There are indoor ziplines at Sky Zone Trampoline Park, a popular place for birthday parties and other social events. Two neighborhood schools
The two schools close to the outdoor recreation facilities in Willow Park are part of the Aurora Joint School District Number 28. Jewell Elementary School students have early exposure to technology in their classroom and the chance to complete assignments on a Chromebook. The school is graded a C-plus overall on Niche. Aurora Hills Middle School provides extensive exploratory options, including various world languages and digital media. Gateway High School has a C-minus grade and a 17-to-1 student-teacher ratio on Niche.
A taste of Havana on Mississippi Avenue
Whether it’s a treat or a full meal, a legitimate taste of the Caribbean can be experienced at Cuba Bakery & Café. Their bakery is hopping with made-from-scratch items like empanadas, cakes and bread. Their menu specialties include seasoned chicken cooked with potatoes, herbs, and spices or beef ribs slow-cooked with spices, rosemary and mushroom. Since 1989, Pitchers Sports Restaurant has provided a place to catch the game and join friends over a beer. There’s karaoke every Friday and Saturday and six pool tables are available.Major shopping to the north and south
A two-level indoor shopping center is only a few miles north, near the intersection of Alameda Avenue and Interstate 225. Dillard’s, Macy’s and JCPenney are anchor stores with nearly 130 other shops and restaurants. To the south of Willow Park is the larger Southlands Mall, about 12 miles away. At almost 200 stores, Southlands is the largest non-enclosed mail in the United States. Walmart and JCPenney are the largest stores.A bus line that leads to the light rail station
A bus traveling north on Sable Boulevard from the Willow Park neighborhood will lead to the Town Center at Aurora as well as the Aurora Metro Center, where the north/south light rail line can be caught, with service that follows Interstate 225 to the Denver Tech Center and then south to the suburb of Lone Tree. There are other bus stops on Mississippi Avenue and Chambers Road. The University of Colorado and the other facilities at the Anschutz Medical Campus are five miles north. Twenty miles northeast is Denver International Airport.
