Dessau is becoming a residential destination because of its location
Dessau is an unincorporated area on Austin's outskirts that’s emerging as a modern suburb in a region flush with jobs and amenities. This is a community that’s experienced a development boom in recent years, turning open land on the edge of Pflugerville into sweeping subdivisions with imposing homes. It’s created new places to live a short drive from Tech Ridge employers, restaurants, retailers and Interstate 35.
Newer builds and established ranch homes shape the Dessau market
Developments like Cantarra, Edgebrooke and Greenwood have some of the area’s newest homes, built in the 2010s and 2020s, depending on the section. New Traditional and contemporary architecture dominate Dessau’s 21st-century inventory, and the houses range in size from about 1,200 to 2,600 square feet. The area also has some late-20th-century ranch-style houses and manufactured homes closer to Dessau Road. Those can come with bigger lots than the more recently built options, sometimes a half-acre.
Properties around Dessau sell for prices from the upper $200,000s to the mid-$400,000s. The community’s median sale price of roughly $380,000 is less than both the Austin-wide median of about $550,000 and the Pflugerville median of approximately $410,000. “It’s very affordable,” says Debbie Tran, who’s an Austin-based advisor at eXp Commercial with about a decade of experience in the industry. “And you still (have) convenience.” Not all properties in Dessau come with HOA fees, but those that do typically have fees under $50 per month.

Namesake elementary school is close by
The highly rated Pflugerville Independent School District serves Dessau. Much of the neighborhood is zoned for Dessau Elementary School, which is just about 2 miles away and has a dual-language program in Spanish and English. However, the specific elementary, middle and high schools students in Dessau may attend can vary by their address. Pflugerville ISD offers limited school choice through intra-district and out-of-district transfer requests. Approval is on a case-by-case basis and depends on capacity, student records, and administrative policy.
Dessau Elementary School is located just outside the neighborhood.
Some students in the neighborhood may attend Dessau Middle School.

Access to Silicon Hills jobs, I-35 and the airport
Austin is nicknamed Silicon Hills because of its high concentration of tech companies, and some of the most recognizable names in the industry are minutes away. Dessau residents are within about 5 miles of Samsung, Dell and 3M facilities. Interstate 35 is about 5 miles away, too, for those who need to commute a bit farther. Downtown Austin is roughly 15 miles away, and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is about a 20-mile trip from Dessau. Commuting to and from the area is made easier thanks to its proximity to Interstate 35, Pickle Parkway, the Manor Expressway and U.S. Route 183.
From hiking to BMX, nearby parks provide space for adventure
Just north of Dessau sits Northeast Metropolitan Park, a 420-acre expanse featuring over two dozen athletic fields, multiple playground areas, basketball and tennis courts, a splash pad, a skate park, and the Capitol City BMX track, which hosts a variety of races. Lake Pflugerville Park, which is home to an 180-acre reservoir that’s open to swimming, fishing and boating
Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park, where you can tackle some of the 14 miles of trails
Stoney Creek Park, where you can let your pet roam in a dog park that has separate sections for dogs of different sizes

Where to eat and shop near Dessau Road and I-35
When you’re not quite sure what you have a taste for, a visit to the food truck park at the corner of Dessau Road and Howard Lane may be in order. The park is like a trip around the globe through food. Taquería Las Dos Culturas specializes in Honduran cuisine, Al-Demashqi serves Mediterranean fare and Com Tam Pa Phi is known for Vietnamese food. “It’s convenient just to go out and grab lunch right there,” Tran says. Old Gregg Brewing Company is also in the neighborhood and has food trucks on site, in addition to a variety of beers, seltzers, cocktails and sodas inside. Many more restaurants are available along Interstate 35, including:
Masala Wok, which is known for its Chicken 65 and chicken tikka masala
Tsaocaa, where you can grab a bubble tea and an egg waffle for a pick-me-up
Asadas Grill, where a salad bar is included with meals
Some of the closest stores are right off I-35 as well. H-E-B, The Home Depot, JCPenney, PetSmart, Ross Dress for Less and Five Below are all available across a roughly 2-mile stretch by the highway.
