Harris Ridge is a quiet pocket of a tech-rich area

Harris Ridge is a tightly packed suburban slice of Austin, where homes are minutes from some of Austin's major employers. The community’s neatly organized rows of New Traditional-style houses are only a couple of miles from offices for companies like General Motors and 3M, in a section of the city known as Tech Ridge. Big-box stores and restaurants are readily available just a tad farther along Interstate 35, while nearby parks and trails offer quiet escapes from it all.

What to know about Harris Ridge homes

This area’s sidewalk-lined residential streets feature a cohesive mix of homes built from the late 1980s through the 2010s. Most of the properties have brick or stone finishes and attached garages, part of floor plans that average roughly 2,200 square feet. Houses here sit closely together, but you still get a front and back yard with lots that are often between one-tenth and one-fifth of an acre. Prospective buyers should be aware of possible foundation issues with properties in the area. “The shifting in the foundations is because of the soil,” says Debbie Tran, who’s an Austin-based advisor at eXp Commercial and has about 10 years of experience in the real estate industry. “It’s more considered clay, so you get more shifting in that area.” Home prices in Harris Ridge often range from the lower $300,000s to the upper $400,000s, and come with monthly HOA fees of $70 or less.

After-school programs and school choices in Pflugerville ISD

Harris Ridge falls into the highly rated Pflugerville Independent School District. The neighborhood is served by three Pflugerville ISD schools: Dessau Elementary School, Wilhelmina Delco Elementary School and Dessau Middle School. Both elementary schools have extended-day programs, and Dessau Middle has after-school groups, including a garden club and Girl Scouts. Different addresses in Harris Ridge are zoned to different elementary and middle schools, but the entire area is zoned for John B. Connally High School, which is 3 miles away. School choice in the district is offered through transfers rather than magnet options; students may request in-district or out-of-district transfers during set windows. Approval is based on space availability, staffing and policy criteria, and is not lottery-based.

Harris Ridge is a convenient spot for commuters

Tran says location is the biggest attraction to this neighborhood. “It’s convenient because you’re right there at that corridor of (state Highway) 130,” Tran says. “And then you also can take the back road to 290. You can go out a little bit, and you hit 35.” I-35 is a direct connection to downtown Austin, located about a dozen miles south. Residents who are employees of nearby Tech Ridge-area companies, such as GM, 3M, Samsung and Qualcomm, are within 5 miles of work.

Everyday dining and local hangouts sit just beyond the area’s homes

There’s a handful of businesses on Harris Ridge’s outskirts, just beyond the neighborhood’s residential blocks. Familiar spots like Dunkin’, Starbucks, Waffle House, McDonald’s and Taco Bell provide quick options around the corner from home. Old Gregg Brewing Co., just outside the neighborhood, offers an all-ages atmosphere with food trucks. “People … can bring their kids. Their kids can play on the grass,” Tran says. “On the weekends, there are also vendors that come and set up jewelry, books and stuff like that to sell. So it gives people something to do around that area.” Many more choices are available a few miles away. The adjacent Shops at Tech Ridge and Tech Ridge Center retail plazas along I-35 have an assortment of stores, including H-E-B, PetSmart, Five Below and Ross Dress for Less. The shopping centers also have a variety of restaurants, like :

  • Sankalp - The Taste of India, where you can finish off a savory meal of butter chicken with a sizzling brownie
  • Bep Saigon Asian Restaurant, which specializes in traditional Vietnamese cuisine
  • OneTaco, where you can grab a breakfast taco any time of day
  • True Texas BBQ, which is known for its brisket
