Positive changes and community growth in Franklintown Road
Although the area’s overall CAP Index Crime Score is 4, in line with the national average, Franklintown Road has higher scores for violent crimes. However, local groups, like Catholic Charities of Baltimore and city planners, strive to improve safety and revive the community here. For example, Catholic Charities is building an Intergenerational Center, set to be complete in 2025, which will provide a variety of initiatives and support for community members. Some programs will include substance abuse services, an early learning center and a pantry for groceries. Homes owned by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) have lower prices, allowing new homebuyers to move into the neighborhood while it’s still relatively affordable. Investors have also taken many of these lower-priced rowhouses and rehabilitated them.

Move-in ready, newly renovated builds often sell in the $150,000 to $230,000 range, while homes in need of repair typically cost between $15,000 and $100,000. Low-priced properties often go up for online auction, with deposits beginning at $5,000 or $10,000.
