Northwest Baltimore suburb surrounded by amenities
In the early 20th century, Garwyn Oaks began as a cluster of colonial- and traditional-style summer houses for wealthy Baltimore families. Now, these homes often consist of numerous rental units or house multigenerational families. With a close community of long-time residents, “Every corner brings a memory,” says Tonette Campbell, a local Realtor with Corner House Realty. Unlike folks that live downtown, Garwyn Oaks homeowners don’t have to hop on the metro to experience the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore, Gwynns Falls or Forest Park; these attractions are right next door. The Mondawmin Mall and Reisterstown Road also sit within about 2 miles, providing easy access to shopping and dining options. Garwyn Oaks offers a quiet, slow-paced, suburban experience just 6 miles from downtown Baltimore and the Inner Harbor.

Enjoying nature near Garwyn Oaks
When strolling along the neighborhood’s streets, one may spot a set of stairs, climbing a small hill. These steps lead to William McGill Park, a green outdoor space with a few benches, shaded by towering trees. For more active outdoor recreation, Hanlon Park, currently under renovation, offers 85 acres of trails, athletic courts and fishing spots on Lake Ashburton. Alternatively, a few blocks southwest, the Gwynn Falls Trailhead connects hikers and bikers to Gwynn Falls/Leakin Park, which is the largest park in the city and the second-largest woodland park in the United States. Under 3 miles east, folks can enjoy Druid Hill Park, home to the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore. The zoo houses the largest African penguin colony in the country and hosts plenty of events, from private parties to breakfasts with the animals. Druid Hill Park has countless unique activities apart from the zoo, including a disc golf course, picnic groves and a Zen garden.
