The Charles Theatre also draws visitors from out of town. “The Charles started showing newsreels back in the ‘40s,” O’Neill says. “In the 1960s someone bought it and started playing movies, and now it’s a major film hub for all of Baltimore.” Club Charles, located across the street from the theater, has been a city-favorite dive bar for over 70 years. Recently, trendy restaurants like Foraged have cropped up, offering a menu that rotates with available in-season produce.Artscape and the Maryland Film Festival
Come summertime, Station North and its neighboring communities play host to America’s largest outdoor arts festival. Artscape takes over multiple blocks along Mount Royal Avenue and attracts more than 350,000 visitors, featuring local artisans, live music, interactive exhibits, food, drink and outdoor recreation. Station North is also the home of the Maryland Film Festival, hosted annually at the restored SNF Parkway Theatre on North Avenue. This five-day event features screenings of films from all over the world, which viewers can experience from balcony seats beneath an ornate roof constructed in 1915.Classic Baltimore row houses

Prospective owners have their choice of two- and three-story row houses that feature red brick or stone-carved facades, short front stoops and narrow backyards. Most homes were built between the 1850s and 1920s, and many have undergone full interior renovations. A two-bedroom townhouse prices around $200,000, while three-bedroom options rise around $300,000.The Green Mount Cemetery

Baltimore’s Penn Station is right next to the neighborhood, so residents of Station North enjoy easy access to both the Amtrak and MARC trains. Station North has a CAP Index Crime Score of 7, higher than the national average of 4. It is down the bus line from Baltimore’s largest methadone clinic, and the corner of North Avenue and Maryland Avenue has been popular with patients for years. The result is that many of Baltimore’s age-old scars are still visible among the attempted revitalization. “There are a lot of buildings there designed for commercial use, but it hasn’t quite taken off yet,” O’Neill says. “It’s kind of a battleground between the two types of life we see in Baltimore, and we’ve yet to see which will win.”
