Quiet residential community on Bellingham’s north side
Cordata is set on the northern edge of Bellingham, 4 miles from downtown and bordered by Interstate 5 on the south. 21st-century housing developments and condos are found on the neighborhood's north side, removed from road noise and supported by the recently renovated Cordata Park and Cordata Presbyterian Church, which organizes community events and volunteer efforts. Just east of Cordata, national chain retailers, shopping plazas and hotels are found along Meridian Street. Whatcom Community College, set on the south side, brings in commuter students from all over Bellingham and offers degrees in business and information technology. “It’s a newer area, really open and sunny with wide streets and bike lanes,” says Jeff Baker, local real estate broker with Windemere Real Estate. “The whole area is flat, so it’s really accessible as far as walking, biking and trails.”

Single-family homes in Cordata are mostly found close to the neighborhood’s northern border, with one or two small subdivisions on the south. Primarily built in the 2000s and 2010s, Modern Craftsman-style homes often feature vertical siding, gable trim and prominent two-car garages, with two- to four-bedroom properties selling for between $400,000 and $700,000. Many homes come with solar panels. “It’s eco-friendly, helps save money on energy, and there are tax credits that go along with that,” Baker says. Condos and apartment complexes fill the rest of the neighborhood with a mix of low-rise, detached, and townhouse-style complexes. Built between 1990 and 2020, one-bedroom condos sell for between $200,000 and $300,000, while two- and three-bedroom properties sell for between $300,000 and $650,000, depending on square footage.
