Cape Cods and Colonial styles mix with condos and new construction
North Beverly’s residential architecture varies greatly. “You have mostly Cape Cods, ranch-styles and Garrison Colonials,” Woods says. “You’ll see a few older homes and some homes converted into condos. And while the average year homes were built is 1960, we also have a smattering of new construction.” Condos can be found clustered in communities or in converted houses, and prices typically range from $235,000 to $450,000. Single-family homes take on more traditional styles and cost between $500,000 and $1.8 million, depending on size and age. Higher-priced homes typically sit on larger lots — up to 4 acres — or boast prime waterside locations along Wenham Lake or Norwood Pond.Strong academics and extracurriculars in Beverly schools
Students may attend the centrally located North Beverly Elementary School, which earns a B-plus score from Niche. “Each area of Beverly has its own elementary school and feeds into one middle school, which is a fairly new building,” Woods says. The B-rated Beverly Middle School serves fifth through eighth graders. Beverly High School earns a B-plus and scores highly in athletic and extracurricular programs — “especially the drama department and band,” Woods says.Beach recreation on the coast of Massachusetts
Woods says North Beverly’s proximity to the area’s beaches makes it a popular choice among residents and recreationists. Waterside parks and beaches include Independence Park and Percy F. Lyons Park, but David S. Lynch Memorial Park is one of the most popular among locals. “Lynch Park is one of the nicest, sought-after places for recreation in the area,” Woods says. A hotspot for events, recreation and relaxation, the park features two beaches and a splash pad for kids. Herringbone-patterned bricks create a neat maze of walkways within the park’s rose garden, which is often used for private weddings and public events. The Beverly Recreation Department hosts many of the park’s events, including the annual Lobster Fest. “The Lobster Fest in August coincides with Beverly Homecoming, which is during the same week,” Woods says. “There are all kinds of entertainment, bands play, there are all things lobster and they have a permit for a beer garden.”Green spaces within the neighborhood include parks such as Birch Plains Park and hiking trails like those around Norwood Pond. The JC Phillips Nature Preserve sits just north of the neighborhood and offers additional hiking trails, meandering through old ruins plastered with graffiti. Nearby golf courses include the Beverly Golf and Tennis Club and the Wenham Country Club.
Connecting to Boston
Commuters to Boston have plenty of transportation options. The train ride from the North Beverly train station typically takes about an hour, while drivers take Interstate 93, Interstate 95 or Route 1 to the city. “Beverly has 17 railroad crossings, which you’ll learn quickly when you have a kid going through driving school,” Woods says. “But the train will always take you where you need to go.” Boston Logan International Airport is about 30 miles from North Beverly. Beverly Hospital is less than 1 mile from the neighborhood.Convenient shopping plazas, Northshore Mall and Downtown Beverly
Woods adds that the neighborhood’s proximity to shopping and highways adds to its appeal. “The North Beverly Plaza is nearby with access to groceries and stores, and the neighborhood butts up against Route 128.” Grocery stores like Whole Foods, Stop & Shop and Shaw’s are scattered around the neighborhood, mostly in small shopping plazas that also include casual restaurants and chains. Restaurants in the area span a variety of tastes, from sushi at Zenshi Handcrafted Sushi to classic American dishes at Depot Diner. The Northshore Mall is about 5 miles from the neighborhood and houses big-box retailers like Macy’s and brand-name retailers such as Talbot’s and DSW. Additional small-business shopping and dining options are located in Downtown Beverly.
