Why Northridge’s location makes daily life convenient
Northridge is an established Bismarck neighborhood offering well-kept midcentury homes and condos. The community has a reputation for its solid craftsmanship, relatively competitive prices and central location within the city. Major roads like Interstate 94 make commutes reliable and straightforward, even in winter weather. Residents have quick access to shopping and dining options along State Street, as well as nearby schools and the North Dakota State Capitol.

Ranch-style homes from the 1950s through the 1970s are all around the neighborhood. New construction is rare, but most midcentury homes have stood the test of time. “You can just feel it when you walk in that they’re built very well,” says Austin Muth, Realtor and cofounder of Genesis Realty. Single-family homes usually offer at least three to four bedrooms along with private driveways and tree-lined yards. The neighborhood also has a few condominium complexes from the late 1960s and 1980s.
How Northridge compares to higher-priced areas in Bismarck
“The price points here are not super low that they’re going to be cheap houses,” Muth says. “They’re in the upper $300,000s and $400,000s, so they’re longer-term starter homes.” Some single-family homes sell in the upper $100,000s, but prices tend to stay in the $200,000s to $400,000s range. “If you go more to the northeast or southeast, those neighborhoods are a bit higher priced,” Muth says. “[Homes] can cost anywhere between $500,000 and $600,000, and you’ll never see that in this neighborhood. [Northridge will] always be a couple hundred grand less.” Condos can be one of the most cost-effective options in Northridge, with some selling for less than $100,000.
Major highways and capital access make commuting easy year-round
The neighborhood borders several major roads and Interstate 94, which Muth says is not only convenient for commuting but also for inclement weather. “Right now, it’s snowy, so you have tons of emergency routes where you take one turn and you’re on a main drag,” Muth says. “Washington Street, Divide [Avenue], Fourth Street and State Street are all very main drags. They’ll be plowed on the first go-around.” Drivers use State Street and North Fourth Street to get downtown, while Interstate 94 leads into Mandan, where many manufacturing employers are. Northridge is also next door to the North Dakota State Capitol, placing government employers within biking or walking distance.
The State Street retail corridor is next door to Northridge
Northridge is less than 15 minutes away from any retail hub in Bismarck. “That neighborhood is smack dab in the middle of Bismarck,” Muth says. “It used to be considered the north, but now it’s as central as you can get. You’re right by everything and not far from anything.” In particular, Northridge has immediate access to State Street, which is lined for miles with businesses. The corridor offers everything from grocery stores and national retailers to a Grand 22 Theatres cinema. Chain restaurants are the most common dining option, but more locally based favorites include:
Bearscat Bakehouse, a family-run donut and coffee shop
Stonehome Brewing Company, a craft brewpub selling small-batch beers
Kroll Diner, a 1950s-style diner serving American and German comfort food
Sickies Garage Burgers & Brews, a colorful sports bar with an inventive burger menu
