An abundance of choice in Southeast Bismarck
Between the open space and farmland of Burleigh County and the active commercial district of downtown Bismarck, Southeast Bismarck offers a mix of rural and suburban living. “The area has a really diverse housing market,” says Austin Muth, a local Realtor with Genesis Realty. “You have everything from small starter homes to 21st-century builds on large, rural properties. It’s a mix of everything, with shopping, schools and recreation all within reach.”
A varied housing market, from spacious lots to townhomes
Southeast Bismarck has a diverse array of housing options, from manufactured home communities and 1970s split levels to brand-new craftsman homes and modern traditional builds on multi-acre lots. “Every subdivision is different in Southeast Bismarck,” Muth says. “You have traditional late 1900s subdivisions with small, well-kept lots south of divide avenue, and quiet streets with brand-new builds in Clear Sky.” Manufactured homes and fixer-uppers range from $10,000 to $180,000, while move-in-ready single-family homes can go for $220,000 to $680,000, prices increasing with lot size and modern interiors. Two to three-bedroom condos and townhouses range from $200,000 to $420,000.
Career and technical education at Legacy High
Most of the area’s students attend either Jeannette Myhre Elementary or Rita Murphy Elementary School, which earn C-plus and B grades from Niche, respectively. Simle Middle School receives a B-minus and has a variety of extracurriculars, from dance and swimming to Science Olympiad and art club. The B-rated Legacy High School partners with Bismarck State College for its dual enrollment classes and offers career and technical education courses in business education, computer programming and family and consumer science.
An outdoor arts venue and a network of nearby trails
Most residents are within walking distance of the city’s expansive network of multiuse trails, from the paved Hay Creek Trail, which winds throughout the Hay Creek Greenway toward Bismarck’s north suburbs, to the single-track Sleepy Hollow Trail. Sleepy Hollow Theatre & Arts Park is a nonprofit outdoor venue that hosts community theater performances, art classes and art-based summer camps. "It's the only outdoor theater in the area,” Muth says. “It’s a nice slice of art and culture in a city that doesn’t have a ton of art programs. It brings the community together. In recent years they’ve put on shows like “Grease” and “Wicked.”” A short drive east, the 270-acre McDowell Dam Recreation Area has around 3 miles of hiking trails, picnic shelters, a playground and a designated swimming area. Visitors can rent kayaks and paddle boards and launch from the accessible dock for a day on the water. Anglers can cast a line from the shore to reel in bluegill, rainbow trout and largemouth bass.
Long standing eateries and an Irish bar
There’s a small selection of local businesses surrounding East Main and Rosser avenues, including Big Boy Restaurant, which has been serving Bismarck for over 70 years with window service burgers, barbecue and fried chicken. Next door, The Little Cottage Cafe is a popular brunch spot. Lucky’s Bar is an Irish-themed eatery with pub fare, draft beer and daily specials. Patrons can enjoy a drink alongside a game of pool, darts or shuffleboard. Walmart and Sam’s Club are both nearby for grocery shopping.
Local bus routes and interstate access
Bis-Man Transit operates six bus routes throughout the city, with nearby stops on North 26th Street and East Rosser Avenue. The Bismarck Airport is on the south side of the neighborhood and offers direct flights to Denver, Dallas, Chicago and Minneapolis. Interstate 94 lies just north of the neighborhood and can take drivers east and west across North Dakota to cities like Dickinson and Fargo.
