Established suburb in Bowie with a central location
Rockledge is one of Bowie’s original suburban neighborhoods from the 1960s with convenient access to its own park, a paved rail trail and Bowie Golf Club. Bowie was once a valuable train junction due to its proximity to several major cities in the region, and today, neighborhoods like Rockledge have become affordable bedroom communities for the same reason. “Everything’s [near] here, with access to MARC trains and public transit; it's [also] situated so you can get to D.C., Baltimore and Annapolis quickly because there are highways close by,” says Bill Franklin, a former Bowie local and team leader at Bill Franklin Real Estate Group with Long & Foster Real Estate.

Classic post-World War II homes line Rockledge's streets
Rockledge is predominantly single-family homes built in the city’s original expansion in the early 1960s. That expansion was started by developer William Levitt, who helped popularize suburbs in the U.S. Buyers can find Cape Cods, bilevels and brick ramblers for lower prices than some of the city’s newer neighborhoods. “Levitt homes are featured here and around the city of Bowie,” Franklin says. “They tend to be priced lower than the new developments with HOAs and larger houses, which can range from $700,000 to $1 million.” Rockledge homes are priced from $350,000 to $550,000, varying by square footage.
