The Bowling Green City School District has a B Niche rating and math and reading proficiencies that surpass state averages. The district has three public elementary schools and one middle school that feed into Bowling Green High, which has a 97% graduation rate and a program that allows students to earn college credits at Bowling Green State University and the University of Toledo.

Neighborhood parks and a few remaining acres of the Black Swamp Preserve
The city maintains multiple parks where residents can play sports, take their kids to playgrounds and walk pets. For an afternoon on the fairways, there are several public golf courses. The Black Swamp Preserve is home to some of the last acres of the swamp that once covered most of the area before it was drained in the 1800s for farming.

Seasonal events, like the National Tractor Pulling Championship
Sporting events at Bowling Green State University are a significant source of entertainment for locals. The Falcons, as Bowling Green’s teams are known, compete in the NCAA Division I as a part of the Mid-American Conference. Up to 24,000 football fans pack into Doyt L. Perry Stadium whenever the Falcons play their main rival, the University of Toledo Rockets. Other popular sports include basketball, baseball and hockey.
The National Tractor Pulling Championship, an annual three-day televised affair, roars to life in the mid-August heat. “People travel from all over the world to witness the revelry of these competitions all weekend long,” O’Hare says. The event hosts a myriad of competitions to test the mechanical might of the tractors but also includes live music and plenty of local vendors. The Black Swamp Arts Festival features three days of concerts and fine art shows downtown. This event is free to the public and is run entirely by volunteers.

Transportation around Bowling Green
Some residents commute to Toledo, which is 22 miles northeast via Interstate 75, which runs through Bowling Green. Jeep, General Electric, and ProMedica are among the city’s top employers. There are no regular bus routes, but B.G. Transit does have a demand-response bus service, and the university offers a shuttle service for students. The Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport is 67 miles north via Interstate 75. Amateur pilots take off from Wood County Airport, which is owned by the county and classified for non-commercial use.
