Boynton's well-rounded 55+ communities
Traveling just 5 miles west of Boynton Beach's sandy coastline reveals a cluster of mobile homes for older active adults. This conglomerate of communities includes Sea Meadow, Jamaica Bay, Tropical Breeze Estates, La Paloma, and Parry Village. Some are guard-gated, such as La Paloma and Jamaica Bay, while others are private but ungated, such as Parry Village and Tropical Breeze.
"They're 55+ communities, so that's the No. 1 draw," says Lorie-Anne Battaglini, a Realtor with Regency Realty Services. She's also a Jamaica Bay resident. "I love it. The people are very friendly. There are a lot of social events: dances, card games, bocce ball, shuffleboard and it just keeps on going. You can choose to do stuff or not to do stuff, but there's always lots available—especially in season when all the snowbirds are here."
Tropical Breeze is a collection of 55+ communities filled with prebuilt mobile homes.

Mobile home living under the South Florida sun
Folks on a stroll through Tropical Breeze or surrounding communities pass ranch-style manufactured homes in neutral tones with carports and sunrooms. These parks focus on keeping the green lawns manicured and amenities in their stately community centers clean. Lot fees, paid to lease the land on which the home resides, depend on the community. A few communities charge no lot fee at all; this is the case in Jamaica Bay and Tropical Breeze. HOA fees, however, are to be expected across the board. Home prices in Sea Meadow/Jamaica Bay range from just under $55,000 to about $300,000.

Meanwhile, beloved local institutions frequently host live music. Residents head to Elmo's Rock Bar and Grill for live rock performances.
Walking to Bealls and dining downtown
When residents aren't enjoying delicious burgers and chicken sandwiches at Elmo's, they choose from dozens of options in downtown Boynton Beach, just over 5 miles away along the Intracoastal Waterway. "It's lined with places to sit for lunch or dinner. Happy Hours start between three and four o'clock," Battaglini says, laughing, "Most of us aren't part of the late-night crowd, so in that way, it's great."
As for day-to-day errands, there are a few shopping centers close to the neighborhood. "For groceries, you can go anywhere around the corner on South Military Trail. If you want a specialty store, like Trader Joe's and Whole Foods, you have to go out a little more," Battaglini says. "A lot of ladies walk down to Bealls and do their shopping on Mondays. It's not far, so some ride their bike, and some take their car."
