Traditional styles, Horseshoe Lake properties and acreage
Rocky driveways branch off the main roads and into the forests, where homes were built between the 1950s and 1970s. Architectural styles include minimal traditional homes, priced between $350,000 and $470,000. Manufactured homes were built between the 1980s and 1990s, with prices between $48,000 and $110,000. In the neighborhood’s southwestern area, by Horseshoe Lake, new traditional and Craftsman homes from the early 2000s start at $550,000 and go up to roughly $750,000, depending on size. While most homes fall between $500,000 and $825,000, some properties, including Craftsman estates and farmhouses, exceed $1 million. Properties with just under 8 acres start at $1.1 million and those with over 9 acres peak at $1.3 million.Lake activities, 360 Park trails and puppy playtime
Horseshoe Lake County Park’s 39 acres are open from April to the second week in October each year – granted algae blooms have not affected the water. When open, the water features boats, swimmers and tubers passing by as anglers cast a line at Horseshoe Lake’s sandy shores. “Miracle Ranch is located on Horseshoe Lake, and that’s been a draw ever since I was little,” Harder says. “It’s a camp for kids, and a couple of times a year, they do cool activities like a fall festival, where they have horses and hayrides.”Further southeast, Gateway Park also spans 39 acres and has a splash pad, zip line and playground with climbing rocks and nets. A trailhead at 360 Park sits adjacent to the county park’s playground, where over five miles of hiking and biking trails loop through the forest. In the neighborhood’s northeast section, dogs run freely within fenced play areas at Bandix Dog Park, which has five trails and provides water bowls.
South Kitsap schools and summer camps
South Kitsap School District serves the community. Burley-Glenwood Elementary School earns a B grade from Niche. Cedar Heights Middle School and South Kitsap High School both receive B-minus ratings. South Kitsap High School’s coaching staff and student athletes host football fundamental youth camps.Pine tree-lined roads, WA-16 and ferry rides
True to its name, Pine Road is lined with mature pine trees, which cuts across Burley’s center, intersecting with Sidney Road SW. Bethel Burley Road SE and WA-16 connect the community with Port Orchard, 10 miles north, and Gig Harbor, 8 miles south. Port Orchard has a ferry to Bremerton, where there are both fast and drive-on ferries to Seattle. WA-16 leads south through Tacoma in about 40 miles and to the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), commonly known as SeaTac.Burley brews, shopping centers and waterfront downtown
Burley Store sells convenience store items off Bethel Burley Road SE. Yoked Farmhouse & Brewery has a rotating seasonal list of beers. “They have a playground, and families like to go there because kids can run around and parents can grab a drink,” Harder says. Since Burley has no designated shopping area, residents must travel south along Washington state Route 16 into Gig Harbor or north into Port Orchard. Five miles south, major retailers, including Albertsons, Costco and Target, are in shopping centers. Local businesses line Port Orchard’s waterfront downtown district, including The Dock Bar & Eatery, which serves American and seafood, and Brick House 714 Bar & Grill, a family owned tavern with live music.
