East End
Neighborhood in Bridgeport, Connecticut
Fairfield County 06607, 06610
Colonial Revival single and multi-family homes
Most of the neighborhood consists of renters, with two or three-family Colonial Revival-styles the most common. The streets are laid out in a grid-like pattern with sidewalks flush against the road. There are garages and driveways, but street parking is also common throughout. A three-family Colonial Revival-style home is often divided between the first, second and third floors as units for tenants. These multi-family homes can sometimes feel stitched together, with a converted porch on the second floor acting as another room or an additional level created out of an attic space for a third floor. For a three-family, prices often range from $360,000 to $649,000 for investors. For a two-family home, prices range from $210,000 to $550,000. And although it is more rare, single family homes, often either Colonial Revival or Cape Cod styles, range from $212,000 to $375,000. Co-Op homes, where residents can own part of the housing complex, range in price from $20,000 to $97,000 and have monthly homeowner association fees as well. “The Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County has been putting up lots of homes.” Newton says. A newer condo recently sold for $300,000.Oak stump struck by lightning, cricket nearby and a public beach
A lone white oak tree stood in Johnson Oak Park for over 500 years until a lightning strike in 1978 hit the tree and it had to be cut down. Today, residents can sit around the stump of the tree or run through the playgrounds and green spaces. Newfield Park has facilities to play tennis and handball or let the children cool off in the splash area. The park is also used to play cricket by the Bridgeport Cricket Club. Pleasure Beach is open from the Fourth of July weekend through Labor Day and is accessed by a free water taxi, provided by the city of Bridgeport.Art education and law academies
Children in East End can begin school at Jettie S. Tisdale School for pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. The Tisdale School is a Turnaround Arts school where art education resources are used as a strategic tool for helping students. At Warren Harding High School, students can participate in the Public and Law Academy and the Health Careers Magnet Academy. Both schools earn a C-minus from Niche.Yacht club and local market events

Interstate 95, which stretches across the east coast of the United States, crosses through East End. Residents can also use the Metro-North Railroad to reach New York City and other sections of Connecticut. The Greater Bridgeport Transit has two bus roues in East End. Route 10 follows Connecticut and Stratford Avenue while Route 13 reaches the coastal streets on Newfield before heading north and leaving the neighborhood. “We are also working on creating public access to the waterfront,” says Newton. “We’ve never had that connection, as long as I can remember.” The Bridgeport Hospital is just north of the neighborhood.Fresh produce and Jamaican food
The East End NRZ Market and Café is dedicated to helping residents access fresh produce and has a small café. The Blessed Sacrament Church has a food pantry open every Thursday—except the first one of each month. There are also a few corner convenience stores scattered throughout the neighborhood. Along Barnum Avenue, Frankie’s Diner is open 24 hours on Fridays and Saturdays, and serves classic diner fare like Phill Steak omelets, pancakes and burgers. On Stratford Avenue, CJ’s Jerk Center sells Jamaican food with jerk pork and chicken alongside Krazy Kream, another Jamaican restaurant, and Anna B’s Soulfood. The Baldwin Plaza Shopping Center is about a mile and half away in downtown Bridgeport and has cosmetic stores and men clothing stores.
