An established residential community north of historic downtown Brunswick
Despite its name, the neighborhood of New Town is tethered to Brunswick's oldest communities, settled just north of the city's historic downtown. The residential neighborhood is part of a broader effort from organizations like Main Street Brunswick and the Brunswick Downtown Development Authority to redevelop downtown and its surrounding communities. Older houses are being renovated, and new businesses are coming into town. "The whole area is evolving," says local Realtor Will Duckworth of Duckworth Properties. Duckworth was born and raised in Brunswick and has sold homes across the area for seven years. "While it's changing a lot, it still has its history, making it beautiful and interesting at the same time." New Town's housing prices are lower than many surrounding communities, including the Golden Isles. "The prices in the barrier islands are all so high, and people are coming here," Duckworth says.
New Town is located just outside of downtown Brunswick.

Historic cottages and bungalows in need of a few repairs
New Town's narrow streets are shaded by tall, mature oaks draped with Spanish moss. Those trees often shade early 20th-century bungalows that measure between 1,000 and 1,500 square feet and tend to have two to three bedrooms. The neighborhood also features many historic cottages from the late 19th century that measure around 1,000 square feet with two bedrooms. Many of the community's older homes have been renovated, while others still need a few repairs. Homes needing repairs list anywhere between $30,000 and $100,000. Updated or newer homes list from $100,000 to $350,000.
Older cottages in New Town date back a hundred or more years.

Barbecue plates at Twin Oaks BBQ and walks to downtown
Most of New Town's restaurants, service businesses and stores are located along Norwich Street. Twin Oaks BBQ opened in 1943, offering plates with ribs, barbecued pork, smoked chicken or turkey, along with sides like Brunswick stew and fried okra. New Town is also within walking distance of historic downtown Brunswick, which was recently redeveloped to include several new restaurants and shops. "It's close to all the restaurants downtown," Duckworth says. "A lot of people are flocking to that area to be close." Reid's Apothecary is a popular downtown restaurant with upscale dishes and handcrafted cocktails. The neighborhood features a couple of small markets, like El Puerto Azteca and Adam's Meat Market, with grocery essentials. Big-box stores, like Walmart Neighborhood Market, are about 2 miles north.
New Town residents enjoy all the emerging shops and restaurants in town.

Jumping in the East River
Much of New Town overlooks the East River and salt marshes to the west, and the Brunswick Landing Marina offers river access. The marina features standard and wide-beam boat slips for short- or long-term stays; boaters can also rent a slip for a few hours. Several marina amenities, from yoga classes to a dog park, are accessible to renters staying for at least a day. The marina was also a former U.S. Navy hurricane hole, so it's protected by land on three sides. New Town is home to two public squares. Orange Square features a splash pad and basketball courts, and Palmetto Square has tennis courts. Both squares offer green space and small playgrounds.
The Brunswick Landing marina offers New Town private docking for their boats.
New Town can easily access the Sidney Lanier Bridge to Jekyll Island or Saint Marys.

Hopping on the Causeway and heading into the Golden Isles
While sidewalks line several streets, New Town is mainly car-dependent. U.S. Route 25, also called Newcastle Street, runs along the community's western edge and connects with Interstate 95 about 5 miles north. U.S. Route 17 is nearby. The F.J. Torras Causeway connects the Brunswick peninsula with the Golden Isles, and St. Simons Island is 7 miles east. The Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, a leading employer in Glynn County, is about 6 miles north. Brunswick Golden Isles Airport offers domestic flights, and Jacksonville, Florida, is about 70 miles away.
New Town residents can also take Interstate 95 to Savannah or Jacksonville.
Turtle River runs right along the New Town neighborhood.
