Rowhomes, twins and Cape Cods
Marlton’s narrow, straight-angled streets feature a mix of rowhouses and some single-family properties along the cusp of Pennsauken Township, making it slightly more expensive than other Camden neighborhoods. Blocks of brick rowhouses with chain link fences enclosing front yards and duplexes are priced between the low $100,000s and the upper $100,000s. Other streets are dotted with small bungalows, Cape Cods and twins that range from around $200,000 to $300,000. Street parking is standard, while a few single-family homes feature detached garages. According to the CAP Index, Marlton earns a crime score of 9 out of 10, well above the national average of 4. However, city crime rates have fallen within the past ten years, with homicides dropping by 60% and overall crime reducing by 44%. However, the nearby Rutgers University is a significant player in Camden’s revitalization and community initiatives. Rutgers offers a range of programs to develop the greater community through education, economic development, law and public policy, notes Caroline Brobeil, Rutgers Senior Public Relations Specialist.Scenic strolls along Cooper River
Tucked along the Cooper River, the Marlton residents are minutes away from Gateway Park’s trails that parallel the waterway. Across the river, people gather in Farnham Park for afternoons on the playground or riverside strolls. “It gets used by a lot of people, mostly folks from outside the area who come on weekends during the day,” says Tito Santiago, a local Realtor with Garden State Properties Group with over 30 years of experience in the industry. Small pocket parks like Mickel / Eutaw and Mcguire Gardens Park offer more outdoor retreats, with a playground and basketball court. The massive Boys and Girls Club of Camden County is less than 1 mile away for after-school programs and summer camps. The club also offers mentoring, tutoring, and overall fitness programs for the neighborhood’s youth. On the weekends, locals also enjoy circling the rink and listening to new pop songs and retro hits at Millenium Skate World. One community, two school districts
Students in the community are divided by Camden City and Pennsauken School Districts. Depending on the neighborhood, the area’s youngest students attend either Albert E. Burling Elementary in Pennsauken, which scores a C-plus on Niche, or Octavius V. Catto Family School, which earns a C-minus. At the secondary level, Camden students stay at Dudley before heading to the C-minus-rated Eastside High School, which plans to open a new campus by 2029. In the meantime, those zoned to Eastside High will attend the Cramer School. Camden City students also can apply for various charter and renaissance schools. On the other side of the community, students may attend C-rated schools like Pennsauken Intermediate for 4th and 5th grade and Howard M. Phifer Middle before moving on to the B-minus-rated Pennsauken High.Festivities at Wiggins Waterfront Park
Neighboring Farnham Park has played host to occasional events in the past, like the Summer Carnival Night. However, locals are less than 3 miles away from Camden City’s most significant events at Wiggins Waterfront Park. Every fall, the Delaware River Festival offers a mix of entertainment, ranging from pedal boats and ferry rides to arts and crafts and scavenger hunts for kids. Other festivities like the Camden Arts and Music Festival take place here. Others can attend a concert at the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion or spend the day exploring sea creatures at the Adventure Aquarium.Short commutes to downtown Philadelphia
Residents can head about 5 miles across the historic Benjamin Franklin Bridge, a part of Interstate 676, to get to Philadelphia’s Center City or enjoy a range of events along Downtown Camden’s waterfront less than 3 miles away. Public transportation is available, with bus stops scattered along Marlton Pike and Baird Boulevard. Philadelphia International Airport is about a 13-to-15-mile drive on either Interstate 95 or 76, while other essential establishments like Cooper University Hospital and Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital are within a 2 mile radius.Local shops along Marlton Pike
Marlton Pike, the neighborhood’s namesake roadway, is home to numerous eateries, barbershops, convenience stores and offices. The community’s diversity is apparent through its restaurant scene and local stores, serving up a variety of cuisines from around the world. The Panzarotti Spot offers Italian-American takeout staples like pizza, burgers and fries. Caddy-corner to Panzerotti, El Conuco serves homestyle Dominican food and other Latin dishes from the Caribbean, including mofongo, goat stew and fried plantain tostones. Old San Juan Restaurant is another favorite for a taste of Puerto Rico. Other flavors range from Chinese to Mexican to classic Philly cheesesteaks at Rocco’s Steaks. Locals can pick up essential amenities at Thift Works or Family Dollar, while Cousin’s Supermarket is nearby for larger grocery hauls.
