Why people move to the active BridgeMill community

BridgeMill is one of the largest master-planned community in Canton, attracting people who want an active, social lifestyle. At the center of it all is the BridgeMill Athletic Club, where you can golf, swim and play pickleball. Residents also spend time on Lake Allatoona, which stretches along the community's west side. Beyond these recreation hubs, daily routines are pretty simple, with highly rated public schools that many kids can bike to and quick access to a nearby commercial corridor. And even with all there is to do here, life in Bridgemill still feels more relaxed than it does in Atlanta, about 35 miles south.

House sizes and lot sizes vary widely

BridgeMill has a mix of cottages with two to three bedrooms and New Traditional homes with four to seven bedrooms. That variety helps attract residents in all stages of life. “Big families move into the larger houses, and then their grandparents may buy one of the smaller houses so they can be close to the kids,” says Zackery Bobo, a Realtor with ERA Sunrise Realty who lives in the nearby town of Ball Ground. Lot sizes vary just as much here, with some homes bordering towering pine forests and others sitting side-by-side along the golf course. “You’ll either be about an acre away from the next house or so close that you’ll have to say hi to your neighbor every time you’re outside,” Bobo says.

How much homes cost and what HOA fees cover

Prices in BridgeMill typically range from the mid-$300,000s to the lower $1 millions, depending on the home’s size. The median sale price here is around $600,000, well above the medians in both Canton and Atlanta. Homeowners pay HOA fees of about $10 to $25 per month, with the exact amount determined by their subdivision and home size. Those dues help maintain local parks and support community events like the annual yard sale and the Christmas decorating competition.

What the BridgeMill Athletic Club offers its members

Residents don’t have to join the BridgeMill Athletic Club, but many choose to anyway. “They all get in their golf carts and drive to the club to hang out, so all those resort-style amenities are really how people get to know each other,” Bobo says. The club is home to:

  • An 18-hole golf course and a full driving range
  • 21 tennis courts and 10 pickleball courts
  • An aquatic center with water slides, diving boards and lap lanes
  • Featherstone’s, a restaurant focused on seasonal ingredients
  • A fitness center that offers yoga and Pilates classes
Club membership is separate from HOA fees and comes in several tiers. Prices start at $120 per month for the Social Membership, which includes access to everything except the golf course, and go up to $440 per month for the Full Family Golf Membership, which includes unlimited access to all amenities.

Marinas, beaches and parks around Lake Allatoona

Another popular place to get outside is 12,000-acre Lake Allatoona. “As summer gets closer, everybody piles in their neighbors' boats and heads out before sunrise to spend the entire day on the water,” Bobo says. Some recreation spaces around the lake include:

  • Little River Marina, where you can rent or store a boat
  • Victoria Beach, where you can swim off the sandy shoreline
  • Red Top Mountain State Park, where you can hike, camp and launch boats
  • Allatoona Wildlife Management Area, where you can hunt for deer, turkey and small game

Which public schools serve the community

The Cherokee County School District serves BridgeMill. Students can attend Liberty Elementary School and Freedom Middle School, which are both in the community and receive A-minus grades from Niche. They can move on to B-plus-rated Cherokee High School, where Career, Technical & Agricultural Education pathways include computer science, carpentry and nutrition.

Where to find stores and restaurants

Sixes Road is right outside one of BridgeMill’s main entrances, and it’s lined with medical offices, stores and restaurants. You can grab groceries at Publix, pick up a prescription at CVS and stop by drive-throughs like Starbucks and McDonald's. Locally owned restaurants include B&B Tavern, which serves everything from burgers to country-fried chicken, and Nuevos Amigos, a Mexican spot with outdoor seating. For an even wider selection of stores and restaurants, downtown Canton and The Outlet Shoppes at Atlanta are both about 6 miles away.

Commuting to Atlanta

Interstate 575 is just east of BridgeMill and connects with Interstate 75 for trips to Atlanta. The drive can take anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half, similar to what many Atlanta-area commuters experience. “You can live somewhere like Buckhead, and it’ll still take upwards of an hour to get home,” Bobo says. “Traffic is just a part of life anywhere near Atlanta, but you definitely experience less of it in BridgeMill because of how outdoorsy it is.”
