As its name would suggest, Canton Outskirts is a relatively small neighborhood outside of downtown Canton. A few residential streets form its northern end, with most of the topography claimed by manufacturer Republic Steel. “This area is part of the city of Canton, served by their fire and police departments and other amenities, but it also has Canton South schools,” says Realtor Mike Boylan of Cutler Real Estate, with more than 20 years of experience in the area. Families come to Canton Outskirts for the rural feel as much as the access it provides to the Canton Local School District. This community is also relatively affordable compared to surrounding neighborhoods. Because Canton Outskirts is located only a few miles from downtown, locals benefit from quick access to the parks, restaurants and shops in nearby areas with only a fraction of the noise.

Cape Cods, Split-Levels and ramblers
Canton Outskirts has a small inventory of homes, with pricing far below the national average. “A draw to the neighborhood is the Tax Abatement Program, because this area is a qualifying project," says Boylan. Many property owners in the neighborhood qualify to pay taxes based on pre-improvement home values for 15 years after the construction is completed. Canton Outskirts has a surprising diversity of architectural styles, including Cape Cods, bungalows and split-levels. Home prices for these three-bedroom builds range from $60,000 to $180,000, with an average sale price of $145,000. Yards are not typically fenced in, but most homes offer ample green space, as well as driveways and garages.

For other essentials, residents can shop at the Family Dollar and Dollar Tree, which share a parking lot. For dining, locals tend to commute downtown or 6 miles west to the East Canton neighborhood. Ashton’s Bar and Grill is a close by option with a lounge, cocktails and comfort food for a nice end to the work week.
