Proximity to the city center draws people to East Fairmount

East Fairmount is a residential suburb about 4 miles outside of downtown Canton. “Homebuyers come to this area for its relative affordability and because it’s close to major highways,” says Karen Pinion, a local Realtor with Hackenberg Realty Group. East Fairmount tends to attract those looking for a quiet atmosphere. Large parks make it easy to get outside, and the short distance to downtown Canton allows locals to utilize the urban attractions while experiencing the peace of suburban living.

Highways join the neighborhood with Downtown Canton

East Fairmount has convenient access to two prominent highways: U.S. Highway 62 and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway 77, which runs from South Carolina to Cleveland. The area is car dependent, with limited walkability outside of the residential areas, and is only somewhat bikeable. Residents can drive about 4 miles to downtown Canton or take one of the numerous regional bus routes around the area. An Amazon order-fulfillment center opened in the northern end of the neighborhood in 2023, employing about 1,000 people in its 1 million square foot facility just north of U.S. 62. Across the highway, Stark County's Sheriff's Office operates its headquarters and a jail, alongside the Stark County Humane Society.
