Mixed-property neighborhood near Downtown Canton

Like much of the surrounding city, Canton's Old Southwest neighborhood once focused on commerce and industry. And like much of the surrounding city, the neighborhood evolved with the region's economics to become what it is today, a blend of homes, office space, manufacturing plants and retailers. Connecting with a portion of that past, the National First Ladies Library and Museum, built off the childhood home of Ida Saxton McKinley to establish a homage to the wives of presidents and their contributions to the nation. “Our museum is truly a gem,” says Patty Dowd Schmitz, the president of the National First Ladies organization.
