“Canton Township’s houses range all over the place,” Vogel says. “Some areas you have acreage available, some areas have rowhouses.” Near Washington, National homes and bungalows line closely plotted blocks. Subdivisions developed in the 1950s through 1970s roll along the hills farther west. There, buyers can find ranch-style and split-level homes with views of the surrounding forested hills and valleys. Detached, move-in-ready homes on less than an acre can go for around $60,000 to $290,000. Larger Colonial Revivals and smaller townhouses were built from the 1990s through the 2000s. Attached homes in townhouse communities sell for about $190,000 to $220,000. Move-in-ready houses on small acreages and New Traditional homes built since the 1990s can go for around $220,000 to $440,000.

Attending the Trinity Area School District
Canton Township is served by the Trinity Area School District. Kindergarteners through third graders attend one of four elementary schools, including Trinity North Elementary, which earns a B from Niche. Trinity Intermediate is the district’s fourth and fifth-grade facility, and has not been graded by Niche since opening in the fall of 2024. Beyond modernized classrooms, the school offers kids access to a media center full of STEAM-learning tools like 3D printers, podcasting equipment and a Chromebook lab. Trinity Intermediate shares a campus with B-plus-rated Trinity Middle School. Trinity High School also scores a B-plus.
Serving kindergarten through third grade, Trinity North Elementary School has 42% of students scoring above proficient in mathematics.
Grades fourth and fifth attend Trinity Intermediate which offers STEAM-learning tools for students.
For grades sixth through eighth, students are offered a great education at Trinity Middle School.
Serving grades ninth through twelfth, Trinity High School has received an overall B+ grade from Niche.

Locally owned businesses and nearby Washington commercial hubs
Mom-and-pop businesses fill Canton Township’s scattered commercial strips. Wolfdale, a village that lines Jefferson Avenue in the middle of the community, is home to a Dollar General and Al an’ Ruben’s Bar & Grill, an unassuming, family-owned spot for Italian fare. In a strip mall off Henderson Avenue, Countryside Deli serves American comfort food near the cowboy boot-packed Lowry’s Western Shop. Mamma Cheez has been a beloved local pizza shop for over 30 years. Foodland is the nearest grocery store. Washington Crown Center is just southeast of Canton Township, past the junction of Interstate 70 and U.S. Route 40. While the indoor mall’s retailers have dwindled, anchors like Marshalls and Rural King still draw shoppers. It’s a roughly 10-minute drive to the busy shopping centers at the intersection of Interstate 79 and U.S. Route 19, which is anchored by retailers like Walmart, Target and Sam’s Club.

Getting around Washington County and western PA
Depending on their Canton Township address, locals might live 1 mile or 10 miles from Washington. The city is a hub for municipal services and hospital workers at UPMC Washington, the largest employer in the county. A few Freedom Transit bus routes stop along Henderson Avenue and at the Jessop Place Park and Ride, but most residents rely on cars to get around the region. I-70 passes through Canton Township, connecting to I-79, a major western PA highway, nearby. Downtown Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh International Airport are roughly 30 miles from home.
Interstate 70 goes through the center of Canton Township Washington, and connects the community to Interstate 79, which leads northeast to Pittsburg.
UPMC Washington hospital is the largest employer in the county.

Parks close to home, driving to rural Washington County recreation
Canton Township Community Park has a playground, picnic tables and a grassy field in a bend in Chartiers Creek. The Washington Wild Things baseball team plays at EQT Park just south of the community, near the fitness trail and playgrounds at North Franklin Township Park. Cross Creek County Park is a roughly 20-minute drive northwest through the Washington County countryside. Visitors might launch a kayak into Cross Creek Lake, cast from the banks, picnic at pavilions near playgrounds or hike trails through the woods.
