Bimini Basin
Neighborhood in Cape Coral, Florida
Lee County 33904
Waterfront houses with private boat docks
Waterfront property is the main draw, and numerous Florida-ranch-style homes with stucco exteriors line the winding canals. Spanish-revival houses with modern flair are another popular style, and nearly every waterfront option features a private dock and screened-in swimming pool. Prices range between $600,000 and $900,000, with newer, larger estates topping $1 million. “As far as property with direct gulf access, you can’t beat it,” Silva says. “This neighborhood is the biggest bang for your buck.” There are plenty of ranch-style single-family homes on dry lots, and these sell from $280,000 to $520,000. Multifamily condos are available on the waterfront, and two-bedroom units are priced between $200,000 and $425,000. There is no neighborhood HOA, though some condo complexes require monthly dues.Water-based recreation in the basin
This area is an actual basin that feeds into the Caloosahatchee River. The body of water, located in the middle of the neighborhood, is a popular spot for sailboats and manatee sightings. Four Freedoms Park is nearby and has a sandy beach that looks onto the basin’s calm blue waters. The park also features picnic tables and a fenced-in playground for families and young children. The Gulf of Mexico is just a short boat ride away and is a fishing destination known for its abundance of snook, redfish and tarpon. Others launch a kayak or canoe to explore The Great Calusa Blueway, a nearly 200-mile aquatic trail that winds through inland tributaries and coastal waters. For recreation on dry land, The Pelican Baseball Complex is 3.5 miles away and hosts the Cape Coral Cal Ripken Baseball league.Career academies at Cape Coral High School
The Lee County School District serves the neighborhood and offers an open-choice enrollment system. Cape Coral High School receives an A rating on Niche and features multiple career academies in fields ranging from pharmacy technology to video game design. Students can also participate in the high school’s fine arts or International Baccalaureate Diploma programs. Gulf Middle School and Cape Elementary School both receive a B-plus rating. Cape Elementary is a PBIS School, which stands for positive behavior, interventions and support, and has maintained a gold status for years. The Cape Academy is a highly rated private education option under 7 miles away.Fresh fruit at the Farmers Market
The Cape Coral Farmers Market, about 2 miles from the neighborhood, brings in large crowds every Saturday with its array of fresh produce, baked goods and homemade jams. The Holiday Boat Along takes place at Four Freedom’s Park, and visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for an evening of entertainment, local food trucks and holiday-decorated boats. A free movie in the park premier immediately follows the conclusion of the boat parade. Other popular Cape Coral events include the Music & Arts Fusion Walk and Culture Fest.Catch a ride on the LeeTran
LeeTran is Lee County’s public transportation system and services multiple stops throughout the neighborhood. Most roads in the area also have bicycle lanes. Downtown Cape Coral is less than a mile away, while downtown Fort Myers is just 11 miles away. Those traveling farther are 17 miles from Southwest Florida International Airport, which offers multiple domestic and international flights.Fresh seafood in downtown Cape Coral
Downtown Cape Coral is a bustling commercial corridor next to the neighborhood, lined with palm trees and popular eateries. Various cuisines are available, from classic Mexican dishes at Iguana Mia of Cape Coral to new American fare at Nevermind Awesome Bar. Fish Tale Grill serves up fresh seafood straight from the gulf, and dinner and drinks can be enjoyed in front of live music. Winn-Dixie is nearby for groceries and more extensive retail shopping can be found at Target 5 miles away. The Bimini Square Project seeks to expand on the area’s blossoming commercial scene with new luxury apartments, waterfront restaurants and retail shops along the actual basin’s banks. There is also a proposed Lee Health medical facility, which will provide closer medical care than Cape Coral Hospital, 7 miles away. “The project will turn this area into a prime destination for locals and tourists,” Silva says, “It’s really exciting.”Hurricane Risks
Southwest Florida is prone to hurricanes and received a direct hit from Hurricane Ian in 2022. The Category 5 storm was the costliest in Florida’s history and caused widespread damage. Bimini Basin lies in a FEMA-designated flood zone, and homeowners are encouraged to review available flood insurance policies and resources provided by Lee County.
